God is Large and in Charge!

Many people are distressed because of covid-19 and the tumultuous political climate in America.  Everyday I read of the increasing numbers of people who are dealing with depression and the rise in suicides in our country.  People are losing jobs and some are losing their homes.  There is no doubt that we are in troubling times.
All of this makes me aware that people have forgotten that God exists and knows everything that is going on.  What we don't know is how He will use the situation to accomplish His purposes.  In America we have been under God's protection and blessing for so long that we have taken it for granted.
Let's get real for a moment.  Over the past 50 + years America has taken the Bible and Prayer out of schools and now most public venues.  We have also passed laws that have resulted in the death of over 60 million unborn babies.  We have elected officials who's morals would have disqualified them in the earlier days of our country.  Parents have ditched their responsibility for teaching their children moral absolutes and instead have sent them to private or Christian schools hoping that they will do what the parents aren't doing.
Institutions such as Harvard and Yale, which were established to train pastors and missionaries have now become largely atheistic.  Just this morning I read from  one of the central bylaws of Harvard, founded in 1636.  "Let every student be earnestly pressed to consider well that the main end of his life and studies is to know God and Jesus Christ who is eternal life---and therefore to lay Christ in the bottom, as the only foundation of all sound knowledge and learning."  Oh, how far we have fallen!
We would do well to read the story of the Israelites in Genesis and Exodus.  The fledgling nation wound up in Egypt during a 7 year famine, and remained there for 430 years.  They went from being welcomed guests in the country to being slaves to the Egyptians.  I'm sure that during this time many of them wondered why God had not intervened in their situation.  Then came the Exodus.  Even though they observed first hand the mighty power of God as he delivered them from Egypt, they refused to acknowledge God as Sovereign, and consequently spent another 40 years wandering in the desert.
Wake up America!  God will do whatever He must in order to get us to trust solely in Him.  We can't continually turn our backs on God and His commands and expect Him to continue to bless us.  We must realize that God is a large as He ever was and that nothing can happen without His direction or permission.  The answer to our dilemma is found in 2 Chronicles 7:13-14.  "If I (God) shut the sky so that there is no rain, or if I command the grasshopper to consume the land, or if I send pestilence (perhaps Covid-19) on my people, and my people, who bear my name, humble themselves, pray and seek my face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land."
Never forget.  Our God is LARGE and IN CHARGE!  Cry out to Him today.
