We Choose to Remember

Memorial Day!  It must be much more than picnics, cookouts and a day off work.  It must elicit memories of family members, friends and acquaintances who risked life and limb for freedom.  The old adage, "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it." (Paraphrase) applies now more than ever.  Our country is  embarking on a path that was initially trod by those whom we considered enemies to our freedom.  We have forgotten that the ideologies of Marxism, Fascism and Socialism were strongly opposed by our forefathers who bled and died to keep them from our shores.  We have become deeply distracted with in-fighting among political parties while allowing our representative form of government to be usurped by individuals with delusions of grandeur.  Freedoms we once though inviolate are being eroded.  Like the "frog in the kettle" we are blissfully swimming around in the pot that is becoming increasingly hotter until we will be boiled to death.

It is time to remember.  It is time to reflect on who we were as a country and who we are becoming.  We have lost our place as the leading economic entity in the world.  We (America) are now the third most pagan country in the world.  "Alternative life-styles" are clamoring not only for acceptance, but are demanding applause for their choices which are clearly against the teachings of scripture.  If it hasn't directly affected you yet, just wait.  We would do well to remember the words of Pastor Martin Niemoller;

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.
He spoke these words regarding the Nazi juggernaut that swept through Europe.  They are just as true today.  Unless we remember who we are and what our country has stood for, there will soon be the heavy pounding on our doors by those who seek to cart us off to the prison of their ideology, all our freedoms having been striped away.
