No Guarantees

There are no guarantees that the US will be any better off even if McCain-Palen win the election. The truth of the matter is that America has moved so far from obedience to God, that even given a conservative, evangelical leader, we may still find ourselves in the cross hairs of God's wrath. We didn't get in the situation we're in over night, and there is no quick fix for it now. Someone has defined discipline as "a long obedience in the same direction". That is what it is going to take for God to relent. As Leonard Ravenhill put it years ago, "God will either have to judge America, or apologize to Sodom and Gommorah."
That being said, we Believers still need to get out and vote according to Biblical principles and not according to party lines. We need to discern which candidates have Godly character, and support them with our vote. Then we need to pray for them daily. If we are not praying for those whom we collectively have elected, we have no right to criticize them.
There are darker days ahead for America, and just electing the "right" candidates will not change this. Only national repentance and return to God will avert Him from the discipline we so richly deserve. The ONLY guarantee we have is 2 Chronicles 7:14 "Then if My people who are called by My Name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from the wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land." (NLT)
